How Much Does Handyman Work Cost in Colorado Springs?

Handyman costs in Colorado Springs typically depend on the scope and complexity of the job rather than a flat hourly rate. Most reputable handyman services have a minimum charge, and pricing reflects whether the business is registered, insured, and bonded. Dad's Handyman CoS has a $125 minimum service charge and prices each job individually so you always know what you're paying before work begins.

If you've ever tried to get a straight answer on what a handyman costs, you know it's not simple. Prices vary widely depending on the job, the company, and what you're actually getting for your money. This guide breaks down how handyman pricing should work in Colorado Springs — and what to look for when comparing quotes.

How Handyman Pricing Works in Colorado Springs

Most handyman companies price one of two ways: by the hour or by the job. At Dad's Handyman CoS, we price by the job — not by the hour. The reason is simple: not all hours are equal. An hour of tile work shouldn't cost the same as an hour of furniture assembly, and charging by the hour creates the wrong incentive. When we price by the job, you know exactly what you're paying before we start, and we're motivated to do the work right rather than drag it out.

Our minimum service charge is $125. This covers mobilization and the technician's time to get to your home and set up. Jobs range upward from there based on scope, complexity, and materials required.

What Factors Affect the Price?

Several things can affect how a job is priced:

  • Scope and complexity — A straightforward grab bar installation in a tiled wall costs more than one in drywall. A ceiling fan swap in a standard height ceiling is simpler than one in a vaulted or angled ceiling or if there are obstacles we need to move or work around.
  • Materials — We apply a 10% procurement markup on materials we purchase for your job, which covers the time and overhead of sourcing them. You can also supply your own materials — just make sure they're the right fit and quantity, as incorrect materials can increase the scope of work.
  • Unforeseen conditions — We price for a smooth job and flag possible escalating factors upfront. If something unexpected comes up mid-job, we communicate immediately and get your authorization before continuing.
  • Access and job site conditions — Jobs that require more prep, unusual access, or multi-day completion may involve a deposit and additional coordination.

Are Estimates Free?

Many jobs can be estimated at no cost if the scope can be determined remotely through a conversation and photos. If an in-person visit is needed to properly assess the work, we charge a $100 non-refundable consultation fee. This covers scheduling, mobilization, and the technician's time to measure and research the job. We're upfront about this — no surprises.

Estimates are generally valid for 30 days. After that, we can re-create the estimate, but pricing isn't guaranteed to stay the same.

Why Prices Vary Between Handymen

Not all handymen are priced the same — and there's a reason for that. Here's a general breakdown of where Dad's Handyman CoS fits in the market:

  • Unregistered or unlicensed handymen — Often cheaper upfront, but carry more risk. No insurance means you could be liable if something goes wrong on your property.
  • Dad's Handyman CoS — Registered, insured, bonded, and BBB A+ rated. Our pricing reflects those overhead costs and the fact that we pay our technicians a fair wage for their hard work. You'll pay more than an unregistered handyman, and less than a licensed trade (like a plumber or electrician) for work that doesn't require a license.
  • Licensed tradespeople — Required for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work. Their rates are higher and appropriate for that specialized, permitted work.

Payment and Financing Options

We prefer cash or check since we don't pass credit card processing fees on to our customers — but we also accept cards and ACH payments through QuickBooks Online. For larger projects, we offer financing through Acorn Finance. There are no hidden costs — we do our best to predict price escalations upfront and communicate any changes before they happen.

How to Get an Accurate Quote

The best way to get an accurate price is to reach out with a description of the work and photos if possible. Many jobs can be quoted remotely in just a few minutes. For larger or more complex projects, we'll schedule a consultation to make sure we scope things correctly and give you a price you can count on.
